Description

A classic wood and brick Colonial is set against a thoughtfully landscaped 4.2 acre property. Numerous cultivated spaces  include mature hedges sheltering the property from the road and “secret gardens” overflowing with perennials, evergreens and mature specimen trees.

The lovingly preserved antique barn with original rough-hewn beams and equipped with electrical service creates a picturesque backdrop that can be converted for equestrian use or serve as a magical setting for parties. The pool is accessed from an expansive bluestone and brick terrace through a lush  landscaped path with natural boulder steps. A rose trellis and an arched arbor bookend the pool. A large fenced field is accessible from the driveway or road and provides a multitude of uses.

The 1940 farmhouse retains the charm of an earlier era while thoughtful renovations seamlessly blend with the original architecture. The interior features include hardwood floors, baseboard and crown moldings, oversized windows, French doors, custom built-ins and three wood-burning fireplaces. Sunlit and spacious, the layout contains five bedrooms, including a guest suite with sitting room and back stairway.

A cook's kitchen features wood-paneled high-end appliances, custom cherry cabinetry with soft close drawers, an expansive center island with breakfast bar seating, a brick backsplash, soapstone countertops,  coffered ceilings, and a breakfast area surrounded by windows overlooking the property.

The kitchen adjoins the family room which features a wood-burning fireplace, built-in shelving and French doors to the expansive terrace.  Just off the family room, an open office is enhanced by a wet bar, built-in cabinetry and storage closets. A second recreation space is designed with built-in bookcases and another wet bar; this room is adjacent to a functioning greenhouse with brick herringbone floors. Additional main floor areas include a generous formal living room, dining room, two powder rooms and laundry room.

Access from the main staircase leads to three bedrooms and an elegant master suite. One bedroom connects to the master bathroom and could be used as a master sitting room.  A hall bath services these bedrooms. The master suite includes a walk-in closet adjoining the dressing area and a master bath with a glass and tumbled marble shower, dual sink vanity and bubble jet tub overlooking the terraced gardens. Step down to the bedroom area warmed by a wood-burning fireplace with inlaid slate and brick surround, and an inviting master sitting area.   A separate guest suite with sitting room and ensuite bath is accessed via the rear stair or through a pass-through closet and secret bookcase door leading from the master bedroom.

An unfinished lower level offers ample storage and presents options for future living space.

Capped by a cedar shingle roof, the two-story detached three-car garage offers abundant storage and a work room with separate entrance.

Harding Twp. NJ

Harding Township (New Vernon), NJ real estate market

Established in 1922, Harding Township was named for then-President Warren G. Harding.  Its location 45 minutes from New York City belies the pastoral scenery; where horses, sheep, and cows graze in meadows and open fields. There are about 50 miles of bridle trails winding throughout Harding Township, which are maintained by the Harding Township/Green Village Bridle Path Association. This atmosphere is ensured for future generations since 40% of the township is protected open space.

New Vernon and Green Village are two sections of Harding, in southeastern Morris County. Forbes magazine ranked New Vernon as "one of the 25 most expensive zip codes" in the country in 2006.

Green Village is an unincorporated area within both Harding Township and Chatham Township. Located just north of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Green Village has its own post office and fire station.
